phoningWhen she was feeling isolated and in need of some support or just a chat, Angela came down the hallway to borrow my phone. (Bell Canada had refused to give her a phone because she owed them a couple of hundred of dollars from an old bill; Bell Canada is one of the richest corporations in Canada, but clearly sees itself as more obligated to its shareholders than to providing service to poor Canadians who need it--Lil' Hawk didn't owe them anything--do they owe him something?!) She also needed my phone to make calls and arrangements with the public health nurse, and support people from native organizations, her friends and relatives. We got to know each other over the early months--that's when she allowed me to record her experiences which you are now viewing! We talked a lot, and even made a short video. Even after she got her own phone, we still chat and share some cooking as she teaches me more about being a Native Canadian.
